EdVenture Lab

A partnership of Tech EdVentures and the Highland Park Presbyterian Day School

Why the EdVenture Lab?

The skills that your children need in order to succeed have changed dramatically over the last few decades. STEAM skills (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) have reshaped our potential for creating new things that can improve the quality of human life. Yet few schools teach these skills with a holistic understanding of what critical thinking is or how to foster habits of inquiry and exploration. Edventure Lab is a bold, new effort to help our kids develop this mindset as a part of their formative experiences.

What STEAM is…and what it’s not.

STEAM thinking asks that our children develop their ability to observe, to question and to try new things. It begins with the empowering statement that “your questions matter” but includes that challenge “ask anything…but prove your answer.”
STEAM thinking does not revolve around machines. Ipads. Laptops. Tablets. These will come and go. But critical thinking is an achievement of enduring value.

What does it look like?

Imagine a place where kids play detective with an herb garden. Where the afternoon clouds get different names. Where our weekly diaries serve as lab-books, and where great questions get a standing ovation. Imagine a place where children learn to measure, to question, to observe and explore. Where discovery is joyful.
