While we love and celebrate our school uniforms, we look forward to our monthly Spirit Days! On Spirit Day, children wear their favorite outfit in HPPDS colors - red, white and navy. Our Spirit Store sells HPPDS logo t-shirts that pair so well with denim, tutus, gingham - whatever your child loves to wear! We also adore our smocked Spirit gear.
The annual Grandfriends Celebration is a luncheon held immediately following the Easter Sanctuary Service. Grandfriends - including Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles or special family friends are invited to this event. In addition to a delicious lunch, grandfriends and children enjoy doing a craft together and the children lead a special performance. This is such a sweet way to bring generations together!
Together with our Music and Godly Play teachers and an HP Pres minister, our PreK3-Kindergarten students lead worship in the Sanctuary three times annually. These services are one of the longest standing and most beloved traditions at HPPDS. Services are held for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. At Christmas, Kindergarten brings to life the Nativity Story, and at Easter, all children bring a flower to school to place on the beautiful floral cross that is displayed at the Sanctuary service.
We want kids to be excited about books and reading! Two book fairs are hosted on campus each year - one in the spring and one in the fall. The Director and Librarian highlight their favorite picks for our young readers, and those books always fly off the shelves. Clifford the big red dog is known to visit, and Book Character Day takes place during the spring book fair - when students in PreK3 and up, along with their teachers, dress up as favorite book characters. All proceeds of the book fair benefit the school library and classrooms.
Once our students are settled in to the new school year, we host our Open House for families. This allows the students to give their parents a tour of the school - not only of their own classroom, but where they attend their special classes as well. Parents love the opportunity to meet the Specials teachers and learn more about what happens during their child's school day. Not to be missed is our annual art gallery - where parents may purchase their child's frame masterpiece!
The fall family picnic is a beloved Day School tradition! In recent years, the theme has been "Wild West," complete with cowboy hats and a farm animal petting zoo. Families enjoy food trucks and dancing on the patio where our DJ keeps the party going. One of the picnic favorites for the children is the Butterfly tent, where families can choose to purchase a chrysalis to take home and observe as a butterfly emerges.
